Fall Fling 2012, A Great Success.

Saturday evening was Liberty Academy's Fall Fling. Liberty has a fall event every year and this was the first year I was able to attend. The crowds gathered all over Liberty's grounds, going from booth to booth. It was lovely walking the event! The evening was perfect and the scene was so fun to be apart of; students making up dances on the grassy field, or sprinting with their painted faces for the line of another booth, families and friends roaming to each activity, or soaking wet children giggling after their swim in the dunk tank! Each teacher was in charge of organizing a booth for the students. A big hit was the Photo Booth where students huddled while draping themselves in different costumes preparing for their "close-up." The chili cook off was also a great success. The many families that participated made the hungry people very happy.

During the evening I had the chance to chat with Mrs. Hamilton (4th Grade Teacher) and Mrs. Rasmussen (Special Ed. Asst.). They both expressed how wonderful the Liberty Academy community is, and how the community is one of the reasons they love working there. Mrs. Hamilton mentioned that the classes being a bit smaller creates an ease when connecting to students and parents. Every time I've attended a Liberty event I've felt that same kind of community feeling. And in the midst of our conversation, two of Mrs. Hamilton's former students came sprinting towards her, wrapping their arms around her in a big hug. The girls, now in the 6th grade, joyfully chatted with Mrs. Hamilton before dashing off to their next activity. It was quite fun hearing a description of Liberty Academy and then seeing her very words in action.

Mrs. Hamilton

Mrs. Rasmussen expressed a love for working at Liberty, and that there is a family atmosphere where all are working together for the kids, focusing on the kids. You can tell she has a great passion and love for the work she does. I noticed she had green paint all over her hands and face. Upon inquiring, I discovered that as she was assisting another teacher at their booth, food coloring seemed to have gotten the better of her! She tells me this while laughing at herself. As I spoke with Mrs. Rasmussen, it was clear to me that she has a wise and optimistic perspective!

It was such a delight to speak with these women, and many other parents and students at Fall Fling. What a great success! Thanks to parent council, teachers, parent volunteers and student council for all you did to make the evening so fantastic!
